Child support should be paid to support the child, which costs money. Clothing, food, toiletries, education, and health care for a child can be expensive. However, it is not only for men to pay. It generally is paid to the custodial parent. In most cases the custodial parent is female.
Child support is to be paid by the absent father to help pay for the support of the child or children. It is not only men who have to pay child support. There are mother's who do not have their children as well who is responsible for paying child support.
i dont believe it's just men. i think it depends on who has the custody or stays with the kids that pays the child support. get in contact with a lawyer and they'll clarify any questions you have about child support and who pays it.
As already mentioned, child support should be paid to the custodial parent. The courts figure the amount based on the expected costs of raising a child to be split by both parents. The non-custodial parent pays their "half" to the custodial parent. No parent should get a free ride when it comes to their child(ren). Unfortunately a lot of custodial parents feel that money is for themselves and depend on it as a source of income rather than support. It really makes it hard to stomach when the child(ren) do without just so the custodial parent can go party. If the custodial parent isn't allowing scheduled/court ordered visitation it is NOT an excuse to not pay your obligations. Pay them and find an attorney ASAP. You want the judge to know you are trying to be responsible at all costs! If you have had a loss in income you may be able to get a revised child-support judgement. Most lawyers offer a free initial consultation...make use of it!
