Advice, please: niece chews with her mouth open. How might I inspire her to stop?

She is 12 yrs old and makes short term effort to eat without vaccuous smacking noises. Asking, reminding, and insisting hasn't helped. Her reaction to being told that she sounds like a toilet plunger was as if my comment was of the highest compliments. How may I help her to value this basic social consideration?

Set up a mirror so she can see it. Advise her this is what the other kids and boys see at lunch.

It may be that a smartphone with video is in order here. Perhaps if she sees what she looks like and is has the video reminder she will get a clue. Would there be any hope if she was caught off guard, in the act, she might change her ways?

Thank you for this idea. I shall consider this. She's a beautiful girl and her appearance is more important to her than etiquitte. So many wonderful qualities: loving, kind, helpful, protective of her little sister, and I can go on. Thank you. I'm not alone in trying to get through to her about this.
