Has anyone had any luck losing weight by giving up diet soda?

I've heard success stories, but when I stopped drinking diet soda, didn't lose any weight. So I would like to hear your weight loss story.

Same here. I gave up soda for over a year, and it was diet I was told, you'll lose atleast 10 pounds. Didn't lose a pound. So frustrating. I was on the atkins diet, lost 60 pounds in a year. Then did the gym for a year, hard core, like 3 hours a day, and lost 40 more. Now between working 2 jobs I don't have time to do that anymore. And have gained some back. It's very frustrating. Believe it or not, at one time I weighed almost 300 pounds. I'm down to 190 now. And slowly gaining it back. >:(
Report as
yeah same here >=( i'm currently 175 pounds (i think thats right for 78kgs? i did a calculation in my head) and am gaining weight instead of losing!
if i find something you can do (between jobs) that works i'll let you know!!!
Report as
I can't even get the energy/will power to go to the gym for half hour anymore. I freaking hate it so much.
Report as
me 2. i have small workouts i do at home. and then i walk as much as possible
Report as
I'm so lazy I don't even like walking. LOL. I used to run 5+ miles every day. Plus bike 21 miles. Now I can't even imagine runnign a mile.
Report as
wow! i havent been able to do that in a long time either haha!
Report as
Like I said thou, before I got this desk job, I spent 3+ hours every single day at the gym. I seriously miss it. But just can't find the motivation to go again. I don't know what's wrong with me.
Report as
it's the whole "habit" thing! it's like that for me 2
Report as
Yea I know. Found out it takes about four weeks to make something a habit. And it takes four weeks to shrink your stomach. Is this a coincidence?
Report as
i doubt it. >=( grr at habits!!!!

Same for me, giving up diet soda didn't work, drinking a ton of water every day helped some I guess but I was also getting a lot of exercise and eating a modified low carb diet (rich in veggies and lean meat)

BTW I do know someone that gave up regular soda and lost 10 lbs...but not diet. The theory behind it that I heard was that eating sweet sugar free things made you crave sugar, so that people that drink diet soda crave sweets and put on the pounds eating sweets, not really from the soda... doesn't make sense to me, I don't eat sweets much at all
Report as
That's what I've heard too. And I do crave sweets. Ice cream is my weakness. If it didn't exist, I think I would be good on the sweet front.
Report as
CJ wow that is great that you lost so much! You know there are a lot of studies out there that talk about the night shift causing people to gain weight :( I wish I had a spin cycle with a desk attached to it so I could pedal and work at the same time!
Report as
Yes, I have heard that too. Plus when I'm at work, I'm so bored that I seriously eat out of boredom. And I never have anything healthy at work to snack on. It's always the vending machine. I agree with the spin cycle thing. I do wish I had a treadmill or bike in my office! It stinks so bad because I can't even find the willpower to make it to the gym for half hour anymore.
Report as
Working nights is really hard and especially if you are trying to spend time with your family or people who are awake normal hours. Trying to find the time to sleep, be with family, get the chores done and get to work, I know I couldnt work in going to the gym on top of it. Most of the time I can manage getting in a 30 min walk but thats about it anymore
Report as
I think I'm going to start with 30 minutes. I'll get up before everyone else gets home and get it done and over with. Maybe later on, after doing it for awhile I can get up to an hour. That's my max of free time thou. :(

seriously look at this website! diets and exercise will just make it worst!

you need to reballance your system before mainting in shape! cause as of right now everytime you go do exercise your digestives hormones go in panic mode!

Well my momma did. She stoped drinking it, but I guess what also helped her, was getting rid of all the Carbohydrates. (I hope I spelled it Right) and she also drank more water than what she used to. She also started eating healthier with fruits and vegetables.

I can't get myself to drink water. I used to drink a gallon of water a day. Now I can't even stand it. I don't know what's going on. I did that in hopes of losing more weight, but didn't lose a single pound. So went back to drinking my diet soda.

That is odd....I love water!!! Mmmm

Didn't lose weight giving up diet soda, lost weight by not opening my pie hole and shoveling all types of food down it. Gain it all back though due to opening up pie hole and picking up shovel. Am at a healthy 285 lbs. now. Headed toward a outstanding healthy weight of 350. Now where is that ho ho?

Ack I feel you. Believe it or not, but at one point in time I weighed 300 pounds. I've lost 110, in the course of 4 years thou. Now that I have this overnight security job, I'm gaining some back. Just feel like I have no time or energy to do the things I was doing to lose the weight.
Report as
I got to set my mind to it to lose this weight I put back on. I did it before and can do it again. I do weigh 285 lbs. now, so I need to back off. Satisfied at around 205 lbs.

The experts day soda is the reason for America's obesity. I can tell you though that me and my brother are the only out of a family of five that do not drink soda and we are the only two that are not over weight. But we both get a fair amount of exercise as well

This is diet soda I'm talking about. Not regular soda.
Report as
diet soda is worst then basic soda! because it dosn'T even use sugar! it uses aspathame ( nutrasweet) different name, same stuff).

asparthame is a neurotoxin, (exitotoxin). does the same as MSG.
Actually MSG is based of Asparthame protein chain!

it's better to take something low on sugar then something sugar free!

It's the sugar in regular soda that causes your insulin to rise - followed by a rise in cortisol - which will store glucose as glycogen in lipids. Avoid anything that metabolizes as sugar.

I gave up soda and juice, water only; and eat smaller portions; and exercise more. Although honestly to lose weight and keep it off its small lifestyle changes over time adding to a healthier life.

if you want to lose weight! the best way is to reballance all your digestive hormones!

distabilised digestive hormones makes it near impossible to lose weight.

and exercising just make disbalanced hormones go in panic mode!

You will be losing weight but will be gaining it as fast as your lost it!

as naturopath about an organic drug that can clean your immunue system and reballance

digestive hormones!

Diet soda really is bad for you. Try crystal lite, they come in individual packages that you can add to your bottle of water. So they are really convenient. It's helped me.

Helpful (2) Fun (1) Thanks for voting Comments (2)
Report as
crystal light is worst then diet cola! because it's filled with asparthame at a higher concentration then the diet cola itself!
Report as
asparthame has many names! nutrasweet, splenda and some others.

giving up diet soda does help you lose weight but for it to work you have to make some choices like drinking water and exercising if you aren't fond of drinking water and giving up diet soda then you can drink half a cup of water and half a cup of soda as you go along and process this new procedure then you add more water as you go along

Hey, you will lose weight but don't listen to anyone that says to drink anything with artificial sweetener or stevia. Artificial sweetener causes your body to think it's taking in 400 times the normal amount of sugar and make you crave more sweets while stevia can cause numbness. You should stick with this rule of thumb. Drink (4)16 oz glasses of water for every can soda you consume in a day.You will lose weight and just thinking about drinking all that water after one can of soda will make you not want so much soda.

I drink zero cal soda or coffee coz i need it when i work...i didnt gain weight..try drinking or eating anything that is low in calorie or zero, calorie requirement depends on ur daily activities, when you consume something always check calorie...i exercise daily too and eat veges..i have never forbidden myself eating sweets, its just a matter of discipline, i eat ice creams, cakes and chocolates once in a while....EXERCISE or walking will do to spend the unwanted calories...good luck

yes, but the key is to drink really cold water. Your body has to burn calories to warm the water before it can be absorbed. It's like plain celery...your body burns more calories processing/utilizing the food/drink than the number of calories in water or celery.
