seems like its flooding out or not enough air. i've checked air filter

It is possible that the clutch has a problem. You should also check the air filter and the carburetor. It seems the carburetor might as well be receiving excess air than expected. You should take the car to a mechanic, for him/her to determine exactly what is wrong and figure out how to fix it.

Check all the piping from the air cleaner to the motor. If the pipe is loose or off somewhere, the Mass Airflow Sensor will not work right and the motor will do what you're describing.
