The primary reason writers self-publish is to get around the hurdles of being accepted by a publishing company. Self-Publishing is certainly the easiest way to get a book published whilst retaining the majority of your profits. This approach also allows you to control the production volume through on-demand production.
However, you'll also need to do the marketing and distribution yourself as well. This is what most publishing houses do for you but as a self-publisher you will not have access to these services.
There are self-publishing companies that provide these services.

They say get a publisher. But what I've also heard is that they will suck every profit if you're an armature. Self publishing is a better option if we keep the above condition in count. But you'll need to get yourself sweating. So get your copyright first, and let me wish you luck. I'm also doing novel myself. Thumbs up. :)
