Nice music...something inspiring, happy, uplifting, or familiar to put you in a good mood. Hang out with good friends, watch a funny movie, devote some time everyday to doing something you love, like a hobby.
There is no one right answer for this. Time certainly helps but still doesn't make it feel better along the way. I know right now the pain is all consuming. But if you try to take charge and manage it, you will start to feel better again. First, tell yourself that you can be upset and all that goes with that, but only for an hour. Then let out as much of that pain as possible. Cry, scream, sleep, talk, text. After one hour, stop and go do something you enjoy, that makes you feel better. A movie, shopping, laughing, but nothing about the breakup! Do this exercise for a few days/weeks and also start filling your life with positives too. Join a gym, take a class, volunteer, get a job, do something positive for just you! Before you know it you will be on the road to recovery and that smile will be back in no time.
