Will the film GONE WITH THE WIND be converted to 3D?

Report as

Hopefully not, that would be horrible.

maidenofthespear....I disagree. It will not be horrible. Indeed...it will be sensational. And I'll bet any 'amount of money' that you'll among those standing in line to see it when it's re-released and presented in IMAX 3D.

No thanks, the book is better. And I'm sorry but I think you are wrong, the type of people who would even want to see Gone with the Wind again, would probably not like 3D. It's already going out of style (3D) and sales are down.

I'd take that bet..

LukeSargent....I think GONE WITH THE WIND probably will be converted to 3D and make 'lots of money' in the process....just as the 'soon to be' re-release of Disney's THE LION KING in 3D will be an 'astonishingly huge' commercial success.

Time will tell.

This movie was recently reproduced in HD, could be a while bf it gets the 3D treatment.

thepedz....excellent point. However....when GONE WITH THE WIND does receive the 3D treatment (and it most surely will....as will CASABLANCA), the re-release will most likely be theatrical in an IMAX 3D venue rather than on home video Blu-ray 3D disc. Don't you agree?

One thing's for certain: the entertainment industry will be closely watching the success or failure of the up-conversion from 2D to 3D of Disney's THE LION KING. THE LION KING will be given first a 'limited' two week theatrical release in 3D and then be marketed directly to home video on Blu-ray 3D disc by Disney.

To be honest with you....I can hardly wait!!!

Disney has been doing limited releases for 30+ years, and there is a HUGE difference between a kid-friendly family movie, and a classic that is out dated. Sorry but you will be waiting for a long, long, long time. I think your best hope is watching it on a 3D TV.

Yes, Lion King is there test market and I agree that Wind is probably not in the cards.

Opps, I mean "their" (test mkt).

Now that THE WIZARD OF OZ has been successfully converted to 3D, why not GONE WITH THE WIND? Same year, same director, great drama, of course - but this is also a great visual film as well - and by respecting the material, as they did with "...Oz" it should work favorably. The expense would be a lot greater due to the running time, but that version could play theatrical in Imax3D and other venues globally, just like "....Oz" is doing in some locations.
