My 9 week old puppy wakes up multiple times in the night crying. How do I know if he's crying to get out of crate or crying to go potty?

he's fed twice a day. once at 8 am and once at 7 pm. goes outside about every hour. has never had an accident in his crate he's a Siberian husky

When he cries at night and you know it's been several hours since he last went potty take him out of the crate and immediately take him outside (or to his training pad) and if it becomes obvious he dsnt have to "go" put him back in the crate right away. With patience and consistency with this technique he will quickly learn "faking it" will get him nowhere.

Great advice! I made a little "rule" for my pups, especially those first few months... outside to potty every two hours. That is, unless she slept through, then I got to sleep more, too : ) Make sure while they're small that the crate fits their size. Otherwise, too much room will give puppy room to potty in the crate! It will get better.

Well u should let him out before your puppy goes into the crate... If he wakes up in an houTheo two hours he probably just wants to get out of the crate...

If you keep your puppy in a box that he can't get out of at you bedside and hang your arm down into the box he will be content. It just wants to be with you to feel secure.

Get a small clock that ticks and put it in the crate with him. It mimics a moms heartbeat and will help him settle. And let him pee before bedtime

You need to make him a schedule to go potty so he doesn't pee in the house, and his bladder will get stronger so he can hold in in longer, and if he just wants out of the crate ignore him he needs to learn to stay in the crate and like it, that might sound cruel but trust me it will help a lot in the rest of his life, and if he keeps wining even after a long time like a month he might be claustrophobic so get him an open doggy bed that might help too
