Yes, I do, but only if the evidence shows the person did the crime beyond a shadow of a doubt, not beyond a reasonable doubt. And this may sound very cruel, but if the person did do it undoubtedly, then I think they should die like their victims died. I think people would think 10 times more about torturing & killing someone it if they thought if they got caught that they were going to be tortured or abused slowly before they died. It seems to me that there are more of just mean, evil people out in the world now and they know that the way our system is set up a lot of times protects them more than the victim. (I was a legal secretary.) I just think we'd have a much lower crime rate and people wouldn't be taking innocent, helpless people and especially children and abusing them and then dismembering them. What a horrible thing. It's just gone on too long & is getting worse.
I do believe in the Death Penalty but the person better be guilty. There is no "oops, sorry, my bad. Here's your life back". It definitely cuts down on recidivism. Once you execute someone they will definitely never commit that crime again. I think it's appropriate for murderers, rapists and child molesters.
This is a tough question for me. A part of me wants to say yes, but I have to go with No.....I don't approve. There are a lot of people who have rotted away in prison for many years, only to be found innocent years later through DNA or other resources. How many innocent people were put on death row by mistake in the past? What if? What if? What if we were wrong? Would you want 12 strangers deciding whether you live or die.....based solely on their interpretation of a case? Wouldn't it be better to give someone life without parole.......just in case?
Technically, it is State authorized murder. We know it is not a deterrent - but we relish vengeance as a species. Unfortunately we often murder an innocent person - after the killing - exculpatory evidence is found - and we accept this mistake as we accept "collateral damage" in warfare. We are a murderous species and the death penalty is just one other way we can satisfy our blood-lust.
No I don't. Although some people deserve it we as human beings don't have the right to take another human life for crimes they committed. We do however have the right to keep then out of our society forever. We need to do a better job at that
Not only do I believe in it for the truly guilty, I also believe in much stricter laws for DWI offenders who often cause death on the roads. First time offender should get 1 year in prison, no exceptions. I think that would pretty much end most cases of driving while high. Second offense 5 years and loss of all driving privileges for life. We could end most drunk driving once and for all with laws like these.
