Why they call it a root beer when theres no beer?
Root Beer comes from a brew that was referred to as small beer in Colonial times. Small beer was made from roots and barks. Some had alcohol, others didn't. Examples of small beer are Sassafras and Birch beer.

Real root beer is brewed from tree roots. Most of what you see in the stores is fizzed up root beer flavored high fructose corn syrup, nothing like the real thing.
There's no roots in todays rootbeer either.
Just like a root beer has no roots or beer in it, there's a drink called an egg cream that has no eggs or cream in it.Go figure.
