Is Jesus God

Somebody told me that Jehovah’s
Witnesses do not believe in Jesus. Is that true?

Report as

Jesus is God's son. He is the great mediator between us and God. No unclean thing can enter into the prescense of God. Jesus's atonement made it possibly that we might be saved through His grace through repentance on His name, and become clean. He is a member of the God head, and the father of our salvation. Not sure what Jehovah witness's take on that is however.

Let meassure you that Jehovah's Witnesses do believe
in Jesus. In fact, we believe that exercising
faith in Jesus is vital to salvation.

I believe that too.

So this is something that you and I
have in common. You may wonder, ‘If Jehovah’s Witnesses
really do believe in Jesus, why do people say
otherwise?’
Report as
Yes, I’m curious about that.
Report as
In a nutshell, we have
very strong faith in Jesus, but we do not believe
everything that people say about him.
Report as
Can you give me an example?
Report as
Yes. Some people say that Jesus was
simply a good man. But we do not agree with
that idea.
Report as
Neither do I
Report as
So that’s another thing that you
and I have in common. A second example is
that Jehovah’s Witnesses do not agree with
teachings that contradict what Jesus himself
said about his relationship with the Father
Report as
What do youmean?
Report as
Many religions teach that Jesus is
God. Perhaps that is what you have been
taught.
Report as
Yes, my pastor says that God
and Jesus are the same.
Report as
Would you agree, though, that the
best way to learn the truth about Jesus is to
examinewhat he said about himself?
Report as
Yes, I would agree with that. Maybe we could talk this again tomorrow. I'll follow you.
Report as
I would like that "ILoveFayetteKolette"...But I would like for you to think about this question...What did Jesus say about this subject?....maybe we can consider some scriptures tomorrow...?

When you get the chance, notice what we read at John 6:38. Jesus said: "I have come down from heaven to do, not my bill but the will of him that sent me." Now, don't you think that statement would be a bit puzzling if Jesus was God?

Jehovahs witnesses do NOT believe in Jesus. They believe only in God and The Holy Spirit.I believe that Jesus is Gods son and that he died on the cross to pay for our sins,And I believe in the holy spirit.I believe these things because I am pennecostal Christian.Jehovahs witness only believe in god and that there will be a limit on the number of people that can get into heaven.I believe as a Christian that when your saved and ask the holy spirit into your heart that you will be saved and go to heaven if the rapture(another story) happens while your alive or when you pass away.

You are absolutely correct "christopherm" It is not rocket science....Jesus said he is God's Son...He always tried to make his points to us a humans in a way we could relate. He was using a family dynamic...He was a brilliant teacher....If he wanted to teach equality in a family, wouldn't he use syblings? identical twins perhaps?.......The Bible clearly shows Jesus as being subordinate, before he came to earth, while he was here, and after his ressurection to God...We appreciate the sacrIfice of God for sending his most prescious Son...As parents we would rather give our own lives over our children...God, and Christ, as a repectful Son, GAVE IT ALL!

I am not a Jehovah's Witness but my understanding is that they believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he is the Messiah.
I myself have a little difficulty understanding how someone can be their own father. If the Bible says that Jesus Christ is the Son of God then how can he also be God? How can Mary be the mother of the being that impregnated her?
The concept of the Trinity didn't even enter Christian Theology until the third century A. D.

If the price of salvation had to be paid by a man who lived a perfect life, was tempted in all ways yet didn't ever sin then paid the price of sin it seems to me that he couldn't be God because God can not be tempted and it would be easy to always do the will of the Father if he was the Father. It also seems to me that if he was God it would be easy for him not to sin and it would be cheating since the price had to be paid by a man, not a Godman.
Report as
Did you even read my post? I said he was God's Son....Not God? He provided a "ransom" (Matt 20:28) which means something was paid in equal value of what was lost....so what was lost you may ask?
Report as
I did read your post. I was agreeing with you not arguing with you. I don't agree with the Jehovah's Witnesses on everything but on that I do agree.
Report as
What dont you agree with?
Report as
I believe that what was lost was mans Spiritual connection with God. When God made Adam he was a being of Body,Soul and Spirit. When he deliberately disobeyed God he lost that Spirit and became a being of Body and Soul. Jesus Christ was the second Adam he had to regain what Adam lost so that we would again have the opportunity to be Spiritual beings.
Just so you know, I rarely engage in these type of discussions because they can lead to animosity which is not profitable. If I ask a question I may do it to make a point or because I don't know the answer but I'm not doing it to show disrespect to your point of view.
Report as
There is no animosity and I thank you for your point of view as well....I am glad we have God's Word. His "PURPOSE" was clear in the beginning...It has not changed and that is why Christ gave his life as a "Ransom" to buy back what Adam lost (perfect life for God's creation here on earth)

Matt 6:9:10 Let your kingdom (rulership) come as in heaven also upon the EARTH

Prov 2:21:22 For the upright are the ones that will reside in the EARTH and the blameless are the ones that will be left over in it. As regards the wicked, they wil be cut off from the very earth and as for the treacherous they will be torn away from it.

The whole Psalms 37 talks about us residing on the EARTH
Report as
Revelation 7:14 talks about those who come out of the great tribulation (on the earth) Matt 24:21,22....Revelation 21:3-5. No more death, mourning or tears.
Report as
If I am correct about what you believe then one thing I don't agree with is that Christ has already returned and we are now living in the administration described in Revelation. I believe that when Christ returns those of us who are "Born Again" will go to heaven. As described in 1 Thess. 4:16&17 For The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet with The Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
My beliefs are different from the mainstream of Christianity. I don't believe that when people die they immediately go to Heaven but are awaiting the return and then will go to heaven. I believe that there are different administrations that we are now living in the Grace administration which began on the day of Pentecost and will end when Christ returns and that believers who died in previous administrations or in the next administration will reside on Earth while Believers who died during this administration or who are alive at the end of this administration will go to Heaven. I think that you believe some of this but not all of it. It is beyond the limitations of this forum to completely discuss everything I believe and you believe and adequately explain all of it. It's getting late now and I have a big day tomorrow so I need to get some sleep. I will just say now that I respect your beliefs and your right to believe them. This is precisely why I don't normally engage in these discussions on here, because to really get into all aspects would require a lot of time and are best done face to face. Anything we say here is subject to be read by hundreds of people each one with the potential of twisting and misusing anything we say to each other. Good night and God Bless.
Report as
We also do believe in both the Heavenly Hope and Earthly Hope. Rev 5:9,10 talks of those out of every tribe nation and tongue to rule as kings over the earth. So it would make sense that their would be earthly subjects to rule over as mentioned in the previous scriptures. I commend you for not being a part of "mainstream christianity", it shows you are a truth seeker and thinking for youself...I want to thank you for your response and kindness! Hope you had a great day...;o)

Copied from the JW website: The Bible, God, and Jesus - Jesus is the Son of God. He came to earth from heaven and gave his perfect human life as a ransom sacrifice. His death and resurrection made salvation to eternal life possible for those exercising faith in him. He is now ruling as King of God’s heavenly Kingdom, which will soon bring peace to the entire earth. Jesus never claimed equality with God and thus is not part of a Trinity.—John 3:16; 14:28; Revelation 11:15.

No , he is a messenger of God with extraordinary powers that help him to make people believe him that he is sent from God to deliver a message and not an ordinary person who is lying or pretending to be a messenger. He used to eat , didn't he ? you know what humans do after eating , it's something that God rises above doing it .

I'm so sorry that, that person lied to you, about Jehovah's Witnesses. There are a lot of people who like to spread lies about Jehovah's witnesses in saying we don't believe in Jesus, but that is not true. We just don't believe in the the trinity, which has pagan roots, that come from ancient pagans, who worshiped triad god's. The Catholics saw this teaching and infused it with their worship. They also adopted idol worship, the idea of eternal torment in hell and many other ideas from the pagans, so as to conform to the pagans standards rather then Jehovah's standards. We do believe in Jesus and follow his footsteps closely we know that he is our king in heaven and soon he will bring his kingdom hear on earth,Daniel 2:44 Psalms 37:10,11. We know that Jesus died for our sins so we can have salvation. We also know that he gave us commands to follow in preaching to people threw out the world, Matthew 24:14--28:19,20. We believe that Jehovah created his son Jesus in proverbs 8:22 Jesus says that "Jehovah produced him as the beginning of His earliest achievements, if you read on in the chapter you will see that jesus was his master worker, and the one who Jehovah was most fond of, that's why Jehovah new that Jesus was the perfect choice to send to earth. In John 20:17 Jesus says " Stop clinging to me. For I have not ascended to the Father. But be on you way to my brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God' ". Jesus even said that "Most Truly I say to you, the Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing, John 5:19. In many other scriptures Jesus always said that his Father is Greater then he is, on top of that Jesus always prayed to his Father, John 17:3. John 14:28. Jehovah's Witnesses love believe and love Jesus very much and we exercise faith in him. Just because we do not believe in the doctrine of the trinity, does not mean we don't believe in Jesus. We know that he is the only means to salvation.

No. God can neither be born (Jesus was born), nor can he die (Jesus died). According to Jesus' own admission he was not god; read Mark 10:17-18: "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone".

In the Four Gospels are presented three entirely different conceptions of the Christ. In Mark he is represented as the son of human parents -- the Messiah -- but simply a man (NB: this contradicts Mark 1:1, 3:11, etc). In Matthew and Luke we have the story of the miraculous conception -- he is represented as the Son of God. In John he is declared to be God himself. "In the beginning was the Word [Christ], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (i, 1). According to Mark Christ is a MAN; according to Matthew and Luke, a DEMIGOD; according to John, a GOD.

Voltaire thus harmonizes these discordant conceptions: "The son of God is the same as the son of man; the son of man is the same as the son of God. God, the father, is the same as Christ, the son; Christ, the son, is the same as God, the father. This language may appear confused to unbelievers, but Christians will readily understand it!!"

The objection that no one is good except God can be read either as a denial or a claim of truth; if he is good, he must be God. This is a positive claim, not a negative one.
.
The gospels have points of view that reflect the writer but also do not disagree; Jesus was both fully man and fully God, you are left with both witnesses in all the gospels. Of course, Jews reject this, but thats the basis for their rejection of Christ -- at the time anyway.
.
Voltaire was not a believer, though a student of the Bible; you don't typically go to a skeptic to be taught about faith, which is also why most people don't comment on your comments. However, I often find them interesting, if not inventive. I only object to your occasional divergence from fact. You seem to be continually judging God, and I wonder, how successful are you in this? Have you been able to sentence him to any length of punishment for His misdeeds? Or does the arrow of authority only point one way?
Report as
Voltaire was a deist, a more purer form of belief than Christianity. It is not that every non-Christian is a non-believer.

Gospels do disagree themselves in lot of things. That's exactly why the need of FOUR gospels arouse and the gospel of John was invented. The last gospel (John's) was essentially designed as the gospel of gaps.

John 1:1-4. In the beginning was the word & the word was with god & the word was god.
Jesus is the word & he god.
The trinity: 3 in 1
1 god that functions in 3 ways
Like water does : water - ice - steam
Jehova witness say jesus was a man that died & will not return. They also believe they are the only people that will be saved by angels & some spirit of jesus.

I cannot believe that. Sorry
Report as
Well Betty the real reason we don't believe in the trinity, is because the word trinity is found nowhere in the bible. And we base our beliefs from scriptural support found in Matthew 26:39 Jesus said: "My Father, if at all possible, let this cup pass away from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will". John 8:17,18 Jesus answered the Jewish Pharisees: " In your law it is written,' witness is true. I am one that bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me. Colossians 1:15,16 says that Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the first born of all creation. Notice it say first born of all creation, so it would be understood that Jesus would be part of Jehovah's creation. The expression "the firstborn of" occurs upwards of 30 times in the bible, and it applies to everything that God created. Proverbs 8:22-36 is says that" Jehovah himself produced me of his way, the earliest of His achievements of long ago if you read on you will realize that these verses are speaking about Jesus prehuman existence. In Mark 13:32 says: Concerning that day nobody or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father. Why wouldn't Jesus no that day. Well Betty that's why we don't believe in the trinity doctrine, we do love Jesus very much and follow his commands. You may not believe these scriptures I give you and that's okay with me I just wanted to show you biblically in what we believe, thank you for your point of view I just wanted to clarify somethings you stated.

Jesus is God incarnated in the flesh. ================Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can?t see?
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together. For God in all his fullness
was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled
everything to himself.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth
by means of Christ?s blood on the cross. (Colossians 1:15-17, 19, 20 NLT)==================================Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith:
Christ was revealed in a human body
and vindicated by the Spirit.
He was seen by angels
and announced to the nations.
He was believed in throughout the world
and taken to heaven in glory. (1 Timothy 3:16 NLT)

Yes, technically.
Tho its a tough concept to explain to non-christians.
Its more correct to say God is also Jesus.
There is God. He is Ultimate. He is who we call God the Father. He is both the One and Only God and ALSO God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit.
One God in Three Parts.
Jesus was both fully a human and fully devine as God. He was like Gods avatar on earth. An avatar with the ability to both act independantly and as God. While Jesus walked on earth God was also in heaven.
One AND Three
Three BUT Only One
Trinity
-
Jews, Jehovahs Witnesses and Muslims, none of these believe in the Trinity. Nor do they accept Jesus as Christ and Messiah.

If someone told me an untruth about you - would you want to automatically believe it or do my homework and learn more about who you really are as a person.

The same with Jehovah Witnesses - don't be too quick to believe everything that you hear.
First - If you have ever seen any of the magazines they offer to those interested - pick up the Watchtower and right there in the cover - it tells you that they believe in Jehovah God- the Supreme Ruler of the Universe- and they also promote faith in Jesus Christ, who died as a ransom sacrifice for mankind so that we might gain everlasting life. They do not reject Jesus Christ - we are aware of the sacrifice that was made in behalf of mankind so that they can repent and have a chance to reconcile with Jehovah God. Please, do not believe all that you hear - that is Satan GOAL - is to keep the vast majority of mankind BLIND until God's Day is upon them.
