Well when I went to Catholic church as a child, I would bow down before statues of saints and pray repetitious prayers so that God can hear me, that the church gave me. I would also kiss the feet of Jesus' statue. But as I got older I realized that God does not want people to worship idols, read Ex:20:4,5 Ps:115:4-8 1Co:10:14 1Jo5:21. Anybody can worship God however they want it's all up to the person making that choice.
saints in life did extraordinary things that earned them sainthood. so its a form of hero worship. lots of religions and everyday life has hero worship. bodi satvas in budhism, lance Armstrong and his following.
Catholics don't worship saints we believe that the saints are the closes people to God because of there way of life when they were on the physical earth. Saints are people who we should model our lives after, we use them as our communication with God. There are patron saints for every problem and cause such as St. Rita, the patron saint of infertile couples you could pray to her and ask that she by the power of God make you and your wife/husband become more fertile. Even though St. Rita is not God she can certainly help along the way because of her direct line to God. We only worship the three in one which is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirt.
Whether the practice is described as "worship" or "veneration," or any other term, the problem is the same. Any time we ascribe something that belongs to God, to someone else, it is idolatry. The Bible nowhere instructs us to revere, pray to, rely on, or "idolize" anyone other than God. We are to worship God alone. Glory, praise, and honor belong to God alone. Only God is worthy to "...receive glory and honor and power..." (Revelation 4:11). God alone is worthy to receive our worship, adoration, and praise (Nehemiah 9:6; Revelation 15:4).http://www.gotquestions.org/worship-saints-Mary.html
Theyll say they dont. Just like they insist they dont worship Mary. Yet they bow to, kneel before, light candles to and pray to Mary and the saints WAY more often than to Christ/God. And its not biblical, it was decreed by a pope or popes. The Mary worship thing is COMPLETELY made up by the catholic church and their AMAZING magic ability (apparently according to them) to magic dead people into being of a virgin birth (Mary made equal to Christ) retroactively, performing miracles after death (requirement to be a saint three major miracles after dying), etc.
