think about that for a second. Isn't the person being in constant pain or in a hopeless situation a prerequisite for the Drs approval? The drugs take the pain away. (permanently). This is not being done for 'fun' or because the person can't wait for help . This is being done because the patients health is NOT good, and there is NO (medical) help or chance of cure for their illness.

I quite understand your comment however you may have missed the major point I was trying to make. I am voting yes by the way. But there is still unanswered questions that are nagging at me. My concern with my question you answered is are we causing the patient more pain with this medication or is it a pain free death? One of the other problems that have floating around is in the two states that have already legalized this patient option; of all those requesting the medicine only a very few that received the medication went through with it. Therefore, where did this medication go? If there is no tracking of this it could become the next big drug to go on the illegal market on the street, ie oxycodone, etc. I have always had difficulty in making people suffer on while we have no problem euthanizing our pets. I just think there are underlying circumstances that should have been included in this voting question. Too late now. I hope we haven't moved too quickly. Once something like this is passed, you will have a great deal of trouble adjusting any part of it. What I am asking you is - if you are told yes they are going to receive a great deal of pain but it will only be for a few hours; then would you accept this as it is written now?

Your answer sounds good. But it still does not answer if there is any pain felt by the patient. But then again, if they are alone - how would anyone know? I am going yes with this, but something is nagging at me from the small print. Thanks for your input.

The barbiturates used in ending life in reference to Question 2 on MA ballot ensure that the patient does not feel any pain. The proposed act is already is drawing around 60 percent support in recent polls, but a group of people in the state still strongly oppose it.
