Can my landlord lock me out before I get my belongings out of the house?

I've been renting a room at a house for 1 year, on a month to month basis. I lost my job around the middle of November. On the 17th of November, I told my landlord that I won't be able to pay December rent. She said that I can stay till I move out, as long as I help around the house. I told her I will be moving out around christmas. I packed all of my belongings, and now she locked me out. What can I do?

No, she has no right to lock you out. She needs to follow the laws and regulations of the eviction process. Call the police (non emergency number) explain the situation and they will meet you at the residence and tell her to let you get your stuff.
Now if you didn't pay the past rent she maybe holding your stuff as collateral. This is going to vary from state to state so call the police and see what they say. Only some object will qualify as collateral. Tv, DVD, ect. Not your tooth brush, shower supplies and basic necessities.

From what I know a landlord cannot lock you out of your house. Your landlord must follow the eviction process. I would call the police and let them know what is going on. You need to have a police report drawn up.
