what is the average weekly grocery bill for a family of 4

Report as

The average amount of money that people spend on groceries in the United States is about $6,133 a year (or $118 a week) http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2010/tables/10s0672.pdf. This doesn't take into consideration household size. But, given that the average family has 2.5 children, it seems fair to assume this is probably the average for a household of 4. As others have mentioned, how much you make, where you live, and what kind of diet you have will contribute to how much you spend. If you're looking to cut down on grocery expenses, I thought this article was really interesting: http://money.cnn.com/2005/12/20/pf/grocerybills_startmoney_0601/index.htm

Depends on where you live and how you eat. When I had 2 teenage bottomless pits, it was about $120/wk, but that also included some non-food items bought at the grocery store in a relatively high cost-of-living state. When they were younger, it was much less. When we lived in cheaper areas, it was less. When they got old enough that they weren't eating at home all the time, it was less.

It depends. 4 Adults or 1 Adult and 3 kids under 5? I would estimate about $150 per week.

Not sure where you all live but in the bay area $118 a week is not enough. Family of four making healthy food purchases is more like $250 to $300 a week.
