If the knobs of my guitar amp cause crackling sounds and volume drops when adjusted, is this an easy fix?

It's a Peavey 6505+, and it's only 3 years old and sits in the same spot in my house. They must nuclear-explode if bands try to gig with them...

This happens if there is dust in the potentiometer. This dust is difficult to get rid of, even if you get things straight again by using contact spray it usually doesnt take long and they start crackling again. The real solution is to replace the potentiometers by new ones, preferably by a capsuled type so dust cannot get inside them again. This isnt too hard to do, if you can handle a soldering iron.
