The term friend is used a lot, but more often than not they're acquaintances. You hang out, do things, go bar hopping, golfing etc. a friend is someone that has your back at all times. Is their for you & yours when the chips are down, if you need anything it is given freely. There more like brothers or sisters, we are lucky to have 1 such friend, if you have 2 you're a rarity.

Best friend because in life you should enjoy the times that you hangout with your friends. Having many friends will limit that fun because of all the stupid drama. A best friend is a person that will be by your side at all times. On the other hand, having lots of friends, you won't have people on your side. You shouldn't care about popularity because you won't see 95% of your friends after college. It is more likely to see your best friend for a very long time.

A best friend can most likely be trusted, because half of them are like your sister/brother. I prefer to have male best-friends, because I've always hung-out with them, and I can be myself around them. Plus, guys don't cause that much drama as girls do. I only like having little friends, but as for best-friends. One. Having many friends can make things more complicated. You may not be able to see them that much or be with them. It's always great to keep one best-friend and a little ordinary friends.
