Why do people spell color "colour"

UK and Australians spell it that way. Both spellings of that word are acceptable.

It was spelled colour for everyone but americans like it change the spelling and drop letters they don't want. (Also goes for favourite and favorite)

Even though we're a practical people we try to be right instead of changing things just to be easy. We spell socks not sox We spell Gaol not jail and our gallon is still a gallon rather what's left after you spill a little

It's the true English way of spelling it but us Americans dropped the u.
