What is necessary, other than a passport, to spend a year living in France?

Would we be taxed on our Social Security? I know we'd need Health Insurance but what else?

To spend a year you will also need a visa if you are not a citizen of an EU country. I suggest you contact the French Embassy rather than ask here.
