HHS Mandate- will I need an RX for condoms? I want to avail myself of this benefit. Will I get generic or brand name I like & am used to.

Could my doctor request" brand necessary "to overide generic requirement?

For an item requiring a script, a Doctor can write and brand name rather than generic name, and by law, that brand must be filled. For instance, if writing a scrip for propranolol, the script can be written as "Inderal LA" rather than "Propranolol" and then it is only filled with "Inderal LA". The way insurances deal with this is different company to company, and you will need to check the policy terms. Some, if there exists a generic, will only do partial coverage as a %, others will pay the amount the generic costs, while others will still offer full coverage. Some require contact with your doctor for a medical reason for full coverage (that would be an odd conversation). I believe the policy can not discriminate on different "classes" of "drugs", so the policy on generics should be consistent, but you will need to check with your insurer/policy.

Thanks. I see what you mean with the beta blocker comparison. Probably same with medical devices.
