Republicans believe the states should have more control and manage social programs and education since states are required by law to have a balanced budget. They are often called conservative because they believe in smaller government spending. Democrats believe in large federal government control. They are often called tax and spend because of the amount of money needed for social programs and federal employees to run them.
Straw man? Please? Republicans believe if you work hard you can move up in the world with returns equal to the talents you have and the effort you put in. Democrats believe every one should receive the rewards equally regardless of effort. Both have downsides but at least in a Republican world your ambition to go somewhere with your life is not limited.
The main difference between republicans and democrats is that democrats want a larger federal government, with more federal regulations and laws, while the republicans want a smaller federal government and stronger state government. For example Democrats would want a federal law governing marriage rights, while Republicans would want each state to make its own law regarding marriage rights. At least that's supposed to be what the difference is but you'll find that lobbyists have made their mark on both parties, republicans want less gun control, no gay marriage, no abortion, more tax cuts for the rich, and stricter immigration laws, whereas democrats want stricter gun control, laxer immigration laws, pro-choice, they tend to champion "minority" issues, and they tend to raise taxes. Of course there are more differences, but these are the most obvious ones.
It doesn't matter Dem. or Rep., They both control your money (tax dollars), and are not very smart about it ! Until we get an average working class individual into Washington DC, the working middle class will continue to get penalized for working !! Thank you & have a nice day !!
Republicans believe there should be no same sex marriage, more taxes on the poor, less taxes on the rich, and that there should be more government and less individual freedom for the people. Democrats believe that there should be same sex marriage allowed, less taxes for everyone, less government and more individual freedom for the people.
Currently, not much. Historically, democrats want more federal government control and are more socially focused (think FDR) and republicans want more states rights and are more concerned with the economy and military (think Reagan)
If you want to get your crap done in Congress, you need to be part of a winning team. The winner gets to do what they want. If there were no designations then there would be no teams and nothing would get done because everyone would be arguing with each other. History has shown that when the # of Rep. and Dem. are = Congress actually spends less money because so much time is spent fighting each other. So this is good or bad depending on whether you are receiving govt money (salary, pensions, aid programs, contractors) or giving money (taxes).
Really it all comes down to abortion and gay marriage. Democrats believe that you should be able to make your own decisions about your own life. Republicans believe that people should not be allowed to make there own decisions about who they want to marry and if they are keeping a baby or not.
Democrats don't care about individual freedoms and liberties. They want to enslave the nation to do their biddings. Ex: forcing everyone to buy health insurance (no choice), bank bailouts - the biggest banks WERE FORCED to take 25 billion a piece, against their will (The Wells Fargo Chairman, Dick Kavacivich quit over this force of government), and finally, forcing people with money to pay for programs that will never benefit themselves. It's one thing to ask someone for something, it's quite another to put a gun to their head and demand something. Democrats hate freedom and choice, whereas Republicans believe in freedom to pursue your dreams and desires.
Republicans care about the middle class. They want the taxes smaller, and they don't care about everyone's rights. They want the car industries smaller, and the businesses also smaller... Democrats are opposite.
Democrats treat everyone equal. Lots of people say that democrats are not Christians. it's because They don't want to give there Money* there taxes away to the government. They don't want the government to do something bad with there money. But there not understanding that The money goes to good things. Like the lower class. Also. Many Christian i know are Republicans because the republicans tied in abortion and gay. Stop being something ells because you hate! Ugh....
PS. This is my opinion. No rude comments please. (:
Democrats - higher taxes, however the government in turn will provide more services to the public as a whole. This idea here is that the government can provide services to the community as needed and/or wanted as society progresses.
Republicans - lower taxes, less government services. The idea here is that you keep more of your money and spend it on the services that you specifically need and/or want.
The best way to be an informed voter is to read each of their party platforms. You can Google/search for the platform information on the Internet. It was a real eye-opener for me when I did it last month. There is no guarantee that the candidates will follow their party's guidelines, or be loyal once they are in office, but that is a statement of human nature. Voting is taking a risk that the person you voted in will follow through as you had hoped.
The best answer I heard was the Democrats get involved in sexual activities they shouldn't and the Republicans get involved in more business type illegalities. Back when I heard this Nixon just got caught in the Watergate scandal. So the examples were his gang (Republicans) and Watergate, and President Kennedy (Democrat), sleeping around on his wife. By now it seems both parties do each kind of activity, but I still like hanging on to that being the difference between them.
Republicans believe in business, IE; if big business does well, prosperity will trickle down to the workers. Democrats believe in the workers IE: government needs to look out for the workers because business does not.
By the comments its easy to see why Obama won the election, the vast majority of voters in America are to stupid to vote, not one in ten can tell you what the Democratic platform is. Democrats pound it into voters who listen to nothing but music that they are for the little guy, and have convinced them that the solution is more borrowed money. Obama has spent more money in four years than the previous 6 presidents and then convinced people that our money problems are Bushs fault. We have cried for years that bankruptcy is coming but because the elections are carried by the young who dont have a clue whats going on, politicians who could'nt run a shithouse get elected. My advise is to stock up because its too late to stop it.

The Reps.want to protect the rich people of the world.Oil companys, sheiks, large corps.big banks, wall street. As long as they get their's. The Dems. want to protect the American people. They want to put money back in circulation. They want a strong central govnt. They want people to be able to make there own moral decisions. As long as they get their's.
Republicans believe in Natural Freedom thru God and the US. Constitution. Smaller government and Life, Liberty the pursuit of happiness. Democrats used to believe that in the near past. Democrats push Moral relativism. They believe in themselves as above the rest and are very good at keeping there voting base Dependent or Apathetic voting base dependent on them. Democrat politicians do not fear you voters they know that you will vote for them each time. Very displaced devotion.
