Use a helmet, even if it looks bad on you, use it. Use knee and other protections. Bring a small snack like grano,a bar, and alot of water. It will be tough, so remember to have energy for the trip back too. Breathe properly, and let oxigen flow through your body so that the excercize will not tire you so fast. Never use the frontal breaks alone, as you will just fall forward and hit yourself in the face, especially dont do that when going down a hill. Check your bikes tires and everything before leaving, be ready for the worst. And enjoy!
Best advice I can give is make sure your hands are relaxed,and look ahead to where you want to be,not on the ground in front of you(this takes a bit of practice because you keep finding yourself looking down)
