Awkwardness but I've had one stuck inside me before... It must've been cause I angled it wrong or I was too dry... But my mom got annoyed cause I was crying and could get it out and yank it out and let me tell you, that was painful!

Check inside your vagina with a finger while sitting on toilet. You would be able to feel it. It would also be very hard to have sex with a tampon in. One reason why the tampon was hard to take out was because it was to strong. Like say you used a super+ when all you needed was a regular. When that happens just relax deep breaths and patiently pull it out. Might help if you were able to put some vasoline outside your vagina. Tampons are not scary, they just take some getting used to and knowledge of female body. For instance, it's false that a tampon can go in too far. Your cervix won't allow it.

I'm glad someone asked a question like this.....I might have to explain this to my daughter since I'm a single dad right now. How long can one be used? She's 12 so how would I know what ones to get or is pads better?

At her age, pads are best. Let her buy different kinds until she finds the brand that suits her.
Report as
i would start off with pads, then as she gets older she can choose if she wants to swich to tamps,if wants to she needs to talk to a doctor that specialises in female care.
Report as
it matters on how much she bleeds it says on the box up to four hours or five but you shouldn't push any more
Report as
oh and if she starts to get really bad cramps in her stomach thats normal along with mood swings, but if it gets to the point where she's doubled over crying cause of cramps i'd take her to a female doctor to see if they could give her something,i had to do that once.

Thanks everyone......one more thing. Does a tampon need to be taken out for her to pee?
Report as
Well ask her. She might already have an idea. Never know what her friends are talking about. Tampons come with directions inside. Start with junior or slender. Have her experiment with them. If she can feel it when she stands up it's in wrong. Next time your in the store look at the feminine hygiene products. Familiarize yourself with them. Ask her if she wants to pick out one or two. If not you pick out one or two. Tampons and pads. It's best to be nervous in that aisle then be anxious and nervous when you have to run to the store because your daughter just told you she got her period. Is the school nurse a female, maybe you could talk to her. I am willing to talk to both of you if you would like. My partner and I have a 15 year old son and I am the one who learned about is body so I was ready when the questions came. (and are still coming). Great job single Dad, sounds like you definitely have your daughters best interest in mind :) let me know if you or she want to talk. We can email or call. She might find it easier to talk with complete stranger who will never know who she is. I would only talk about what you approve of, like what your beliefs and stuff are. I am very respectful.

No, it doesn't need to be removed to pee. She pees from just above her vagina. Two separate places.

Even if the string were to break (which I can't imagine happening) it soon would absorb enough bodily fluid that the body would force it to expell.

You should change them at least 3 times a day and more if there is leaking. And yes they can get dislodged and stuck which is dangerous. If you cannot remove it please get to a doctor for help.
