No one knows. But you gotta figure that there's got to be something to all of this. I find it hard to believe that every single living thing on this earth came from the ocean - or evolved. How do you get male and female from a single organism? And the DNA strand - too complicated to have just happened. The Bible was written by Man. Personally, I just have a gut feeling that there's something after this Life. I don't know what it is, but there's something...
Anyone protesting to know "the final resting place of a soul" is either lieing or crazy. To know that one must be dead. There can be no reliable data on this because dead people don't talk. Even the ones that come back to life may have just experienced vivid hallucinations that are prompted by the brain releasing certain chemicals upon death. The same effects can be simulated in a lab using an anesthetic called ketamine. We can be sure their is no heaven or hell because there is no evidence at all to suggest there is a heaven or hell. Presupposing magic invisible golden carrots orbiting the solar system does not increase the likelihood of there existence- they remain an outlandish fantasy object subject only to our imagination. If one were to sincerely suggest that they believe this most people would laugh in there face. The only reason heaven and hell strike people differently if because when emotionally invested in the ideas they cultivate fear and hope- the two most powerful emotions for controlling people.
Fair question. Options are 1) that no one knows. That would not be enough to make them any less real. 2) God has placed the idea in mankind. That is what Solomon thought, in Eccl 3:11. If you believe God is our Creator, that would make sense that we would be made to think of Him and eternity. 3) God revealed it. Again, speaking from the Christian worldview, which believes in the inspiration of the Bible; then, it is one testimony. 4) Someone who has been there tells us. Christians believe God came from Heaven to earth in the flesh as Jesus Christ. Jesus spoke of both heaven and hell. If you trust Him, and I do, then I believe what He taught.
(I am not as trusting of others who do not have the same credibility as Jesus Christ)
"God has made every thing beautiful in it's time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; Yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to the end." Ecclesiastes 3:11, said by King Solomon, who lacked nothing in this world. This means we are never going to be satisfied with earthly pleasures and pursuits. Because we are created in God's image, we have a spiritual thirst. We have eternal value and nothing but the eternal God can satisfy us. "He has built in us a restless yearning for the kind of perfect world that can only be found in a perfect rule. He has given us a glimpse of of the perfection of his creation. But it is only a glimpse, we cannot see into the future or comprehend every thing. So we must trust Him now and do his work on earth."
