At what age is a child too old to shower with a parent?

I have 2 boys one is 4 and the other 18months with my schedule its just easier to shower with them both and save myself some during the day. my husband says my four year old is getting to old.

Eek! I never bathed with my kids, but the general rule when I was a Social Worker, was two years old.. That is the age they really start asking Q's about body parts and the time when you want them to understand privacy, good touch and bad touch, A four year old child is too old to be showering with.. Let me add, as I read some of these answers, that I am not talking about a two year old by himself in the bath.. you should bathe your kids until they are four or five, then they can bathe themselves.. I'm talking about when a child is two years old, you shouldn't be bathing WITH them..

You were a social worker? Wow!

Lol.. Yeah.. Hard job!
Report as
Yep. I was in foster care for 5 years as a kid, so I wanted to be a social worker for a while. It seems very stressful!

I worked as a economic service worker

I stopped showering with my parents at 4 years old. My niece is 8 and she still showers with her mom and her younger brother and sister. (I know-I know, but I am not touching that subject with my sister)

oh, I get it now. Yeah, I know, but my niece thinks is okay because she doesn't know any better. She also sleeps in the same bed with my sister.

If you need to save time, shower with your husband, and the 18 month old. Leave her out when she turns 2.

My question is why don't you already know how dangerous this is for your child's se..xual identity development already?

Gotta disagree with ya on this one, Cerebo- although I think it's creepy for an adult to shower with a kid, I don't think that harms a child's sexual development. On the other hand, I DO believe shame over nudity, etc. would harm a child. By this, I mean not freaking-out if the child sees a parent nude. Not saying YOU'D do this, but you get my gist. A happy medium and all. A natural comfortable attitude, but not bathing or walking around all the time nekkid, lol.

I have a personal experience with this - I observed a friend of mine bathing with her son - at 4 years old - he would often get aroused and his mother in the tub with him would laugh and think it was cute. I warned her repeatedly to stop this - he was too old - she ignored me and the child is now so incredibly deviant that I can't even write here what he does. This also had a negative effect on her husband - an Army captain - who agreed with me - and told me he thought his wife was in need of therapy - they came very close to divorce - the child, now eighteen, a registered se..xx offender, disappeared and they haven't had any real contact in years. She's playing with fire.

I have to say that if I thought at all it was arousing my son I would have put an immediate Stop to it. He pays no mind to me and what I'm doing just simply plays in the water. I appreciate your comment.
Report as
That's exactly what my friend said to me. Can you teach your son to bathe himself?
Report as
Yeah he takes showers by himself, that's not a problem. It's not as if he throws a fit if I don't shower with him. Truth is I'm not sure why I asked the question I already know the answer. I just didn't expect much negative feed back.

We stopped when we couldn't hold then any longer. Yes it was an easy way to rinse them off. A child that age is standing at an eye level that invites too many questions.
