What I find so sad about Death Note was L's death. L knew the entire time that Light Yagami was Kira, but after becoming friends with him and growing to like him, believed that he could change his ways. I think L knew deep down that Light was Kira, but didn't want to - couldn't- believe it. Light was L's first friend, despite their also being enemies. Light did indeed start off with 'good' intentions, but was naive and went mad, hungry with power. It's sad; I do believe that Light and L could have been friends, if Light had been smarter and returned the Death Note to Ryuk at once. But Light, being so intelligent, got bored, like Ryuk, and decided to create a utopia, without realizing that such a situation is impossible. After all, every story has got to have an antagonist, a bad guy, though it's not always black and white.
On the subject of Misa Amane, I hate how Light uses her and manipulates her as if her worth is only that of a future pen stroke in a notebook. Misa, before Light, was actually a 'decent' person, excluding of course her being Kira 2, but became increasingly shallow, a pawn in Kira's plans and nothing more.
>w< okay, I'll stop now, sorry

Haha it's all right :)
I also thought L and Light could've been friends, it was heartbreaking to see the look on L's face as he died :'(
He was awful to Misa too. However, for some reason, I felt really bad for Light at the end. He looked so helpless and sorry for all he'd done, probably wishing he'd never even picked the notebook up.....

Yeah :(
At the end, I didn't see regret in Light's eyes. Not regret for his crimes, at least. I think he lost his ability for compassion a long time ago. I think he wished that he wasn't caught. That's at least what I saw. And, to see that, it was sad to know that Light, in trying to force his idea of 'right', had lost completely the ability to judge 'right' and 'wrong', even when he had nothing left to prove.
