From what I know if you have brown stuff backing up in your radiator that means it is dirty. You may need to have it flushed out. While you are at it you should also have the mechanic check out the knocking sound because it could be anything.

The new antifreeze causes frothing that is brown and builds up. You should look into having your radiator flushed. While you're there, mention the knock and have it checked out. A knocking engine is never a good thing.

The knocking has nothing to do with what is in your radiator.

Chances are it sounds like your car has not been maintained in a long time.

You should be checking the oil level make sure it is up to the marked full line. Also, when is the last time your oil and filter were changed ? When is the last time you had a tune up ?

You should get a radiator flush and refill at the same time your oil is changed.

You could also have used the wrong octane rating of gas in your tank. I don't know what kind of car / truck you have since you didn't say, but if your vehicle requires premium and you only put in regular, it can cause knocking as well.
