eye color is directly affected by a gene. a green eyed gene is a recessive gene, meaning a dominant gene (such as blue eyes or brown eyes) overpower that gene

Nope. Blue is more common than green.

it's because having green eyes is really a mutation of the genes between the blue and brown eye color gene, so it actually isn't normal. kind of cool, you can walk around saying, "I'm a mutant!!"
