I am thinking of taking pills to deal with my depression, but then again people tell me they are bad. So should i get a prescription?

Report as

SOME people seriously NEED meds to even themselves out.....others just need to talk about things.....pretty much the whole world is looking for excuses to take some kind of drug, so if you think you NEED some sort of pills, then go about it the right way and go get a script for them.....

If you need them, yes. Though they can be bad for you. I would use medication as a last resort if I were you.

There was a time where I would have had a different outlook on this whole situation, but I know where those choices lead and I am now anti-drug unless doctor recommended....

Yes, but check the side affects. My Uncle Hunter took some without reading the side affects and it made him have nausea and feel weird.

Yes. It is illegal to take someone else's prescription pills. And if your doctors don't know you are on any meds then they can't give you what you need for this or anything else.

instead of trying to numb the pain with pills why not try counselling? if you are still in school there are counsellors at schools, i forget what theyre called but i think theyre called student counsellors. if you are out of school then you can talk to a psychiatrist. its nothing to be ashamed of and it might make you feel better about what ever you are going through. also a psychiatrist could give you some perspective that you didnt see before

You should see a psychiatrist. You may be able to get the help you need without pills. In the end a medical professional needs to decide if you need pills.

You can't just "take meds" to deal with depression.. Nor can you just "get a prescription". You must see a qualified specialist that will assess your symptoms and render a diagnosis.. After that, they may, or may not prescribe meds, based on your assessment.. Please see your family physician first who can get you a referral for services, if needed.. Good luck..

OH!! I thought poppin pills was the cure for my "reality" problem.....8)

Lol.. Is for some.. ;0)

And the irony in that is that it's a Catch 22....they take the pills to escape reality, then they are neglecting reality while escaped from it, then when they return to reality it's usually worse than it was before they originally escaped it so then they gotta go escape again........and the world keeps turnin......

try exercising... your body releases endorphins when you work out, which is excellent for dealing with stress.

It depends on what type of pills you are thinking of taking. Antidepressents are fine, as long as you can speak with a therapist as well. But pills are short-term, and the dose needs to be increased as time goes by. Perhaps try in conjunction with a therapist and hopefully things can begin to get sorted out before you'd need an increase. Don't worry-it would take a long time before you'd need a higher dose. But I would stay far away from the street drugs-they'll make things way, way worse for you.

Go to a Doctor tell him how you are felling. And if you need help do what he tells you to do.I wood rother see someone get help than be unhappy their whole life. some people don't no what they are talking about untilled they find themselves in the same fix.

Mr..many have valid points here but through experience I can tell you, anxiety and depression are real illnesses that need professional help for most people.
You just can't say " I am depressed so should i take pills?" You go to a doctor, tell him/her what you are feeling, discuss your family history [depression is a chemical imbalance that can be inherited] and you must discuss all issues the doctor feels pertinent to your case.
You may just be in a bad way that will pass or you may be in true depression and you DO need meds for that.
The doctor will monitor you often to see what you are feeling. This is the safe and proper way to take care of your mental and physical state.Goid bless..,Oh..prayer is powerful ..I combine both.

I take Zoloft. I will get off them soon....They help a lot..You don't have to take them forever either,That is why you are monitored by your physician. Depression is not fun.....You can't put an ointment on the problem..It needs meds.. God bless...

Your questioning perceptive mindset will probably serve you well particularly if involved with the medical profession since over 100, 000 people get killed each year from properly prescribed medications (review http://www.supplements-and-health.com/health-risks-dietary-supplements.html ).

Some people have neurological and hormonal disorders and they Do need medicine to control it. Some depressions are not only psychological but physiological. My advice for you.... go to the doctor, don't prescribe anything yourself until you know for sure what is going on.
