In Wicca the winter solstice is called Yule. Each of the Sabbats represent a point in a cycle of the year, such as seasons, and also the cycle of life, such as birth, marriage and death. These cycles of life are played out by the God and Goddess. At yule the Goddess gives birth to the God, (who died at Samhain(Halloween)) symbolizing the return of the sun, longer and warmer days. So you can see the similarities between this belief and Christian, in that this is the time of year we celebrate birth and the returning light of the world, (whether you believe it comes in the form of a son or a sun lol) if you are looking for a pagan symbol to adorn the top of your tree try a five pointed star- Blessed Be

I don't quite understand wha you mean, but here goes.In the pagan tradition the winter solstice fell on around the 20-21 of Dec. This was the longest night and pagans would celebrate Yule. The yule log was lit and homes all thru the town would put out the fires in their fireplaces in order to relight them from the yule log.Read more here :http://www.goodnewsaboutgod.com/studies/holidays2.htm

Actually I did practice the craft for many years, while at the same time considering myself a christian, I really dont label myself either so much anymore, maybe sometimes both, if you can imagine (a christian witch lol) I dont have an altar set up or do ceremonies on sabbats anymore, but I just try to recognize and accept all ideas about theology and atheism even. I guess I've been struck by the idea that I as a human have absolutely no idea what's really going on....
