What is a good camera for someone who doesn't need a professional $500 camera?

I just want a digital camera that doesn't need 100 attachments and won't be $100's of dollars

$500 doesn't really get you a good, professional DSLR if you are want high quality photos, but for everyday purposes, there are a wide range of point-and-shoot cameras that can be had for less than $500. Good brands include Sony, Canon, Samsung, and Nikon. What kind of purposes are you going to be using the camera for? It's hard to recommend a model without knowing exactly what you want.

I just want it for pictures of friends and maybe the occasional sunset or something like that just a point and shoot

I personally really like Canon, I have a S95 that I bought on sale last year and it cost $299+tax at that time. There are some really nice models with good zoom in the $200 range. My friend has a small Sony point-and-shoot that she bought during Boxing Day sale for $100 or so. It works great for the occasional picture of friends and general scenery shots. What's your budget?

I got a waterproof Olympus digital camera TG-810. Not very good, and the focus isn't very good. My old Sony was much better, and so were the Panasonic and the others I have used.

Nikon, in my professional opinion is the best DSLR you can get! Unfortunately, today getting a good camera for $100.00 or under is difficult at best.

My Cannon Power Shot camera takes better photos than a friend's expensive camera. I print out 8 X 10 photos (using my Cannon printer) and the images look great.
