Is there a home made recipe to soften water inside of a steam table to prevent hard water build up?

Must be safe!

The best thing to do is install a Pur or Brita water filter on the faucet you fill the steamtable with , Or purchase a portable Brita water filter that you manually run water through , The filters remove mineral deposits and chemicals from the water so you won't end up with hard water deposits , This is the safest method to purify the water for the steamtable without the use and danger of strong chemicals and is the least expensive , Be sure to change the filter cartridges regularly

You can use a paste of warm water and baking soda to remove, if there is a hard water build-up. If there is no build up yet, get a water softener system and keep filling it up with salt. Visit http://www.ehow.com/how_7734799_stop-hardwater-buildup.html, to learn more.
