What is the right age to get a sword?

I had gotten a sword when I was 11 and now my daughter wants one too. I promised her one when she was the right age. I am not sure what age is good for her to have something that could chop a head off

We're not talking about a Barbie doll or a cell phone......you're asking about a deadly sword....."can chop a head off?"
Don't mean to be insulting, but since you have to ask this question.....maybe no age is a good age.

18. A sword is a dangerous weapon. I can't believe these knife shows on TV that sell them and brags that a parent bought one for a 12 year old.

Well, you should really get your sword at least a couple of years before dueling age. That way you'll have a full two years to train before you might need to use it. So.... since the present customary age for dueling is... never.... then she should have the sword two years before then.

Ha, but seriously -- depends on when the kid is mature enough not to play with it like a toy and cut herself -- anywhere from 10 to 21 depending on the person.

I think you should get one when you are properly trained to handle one safely?
Example; People don't just give people a handgun, there is a process to obtain one.
Example 2; people don't just get a license to drive they learn first and pass a test.
Weapons are only dangerous in the hands of a dangerous person.

In the year 1066, just before the battle of Hastings, the proper age to get a sword for your kid was around 14! This was the age when most brats could lob the head off their former friend. In 2012, with rare exception, most of us agree there is absolutely no valid reason for a kid to own or be near a sword. But I ain't the king..only a humble subject and servant...
