It's just another reason I support right to work states. Unions are becoming a bane to employees all across this nation. And yet we still sit back and wonder why business is fleeing our country. Hostess foods will return, but made by some third world conglomerate, who's workers allow the company to make a profit. And non-union workers to boot! jmo. :(
My thoughts are that the worker's union didn't care enough about keeping the workers employed. Times are tough. Working at high wages is great, but not working and getting paid at all is a huge problem. Also the government gets no tax revenue from people who are unemployed. Oh... I haven't bought Twinkies, HoHos or Ding Dongs in a very long time so I won't miss them.
They are selling the brands off to the highest bidder, so while it won't be "Hostess" Twinkies" anymore, there will likely still be Twinkies of some sort still around, just made by someone else. They'll have gotten the recipe as well, so it should be relatively the same.
Everyone is blaming the unions, but I wonder how much of a pay/benefits cut the upper management and CEOs took in all of this (if any), and what sort of compensation packages they'll get when the company goes under, versus the rest of the workers who now have to face the holidays with nothing.
