Whats the difference between 10k, 14k and 24k gold?

My family adds that the 14 k gold is the best gold metal there is,correct me if I'm wrong but i know its the diamond but add that that's the best gold you can find,or the real one the others are fake or has lesser value than the 14 k .

the k in gold stands for the amount of gold atoms in the molecule. There are 24 atoms in a gold molecule and what ever is not gold is silver ( hence white gold).

24k is considered pure gold, 14k is 58.5%, 10k is 41.7% pure.
