Because they follow the opinion of a book. Not their own, a bible, which only says it is wrong. Besides that. No other reason. If gays get married.... It would make a big part of society happy, and make them work harder in the country they live for even better lifes. Organizations willing to marry them would make profit and bring new jobs. Gay couples adopt alot of children, the percentage of adopted childrens with houses and new caring families, would increase the "happiness" level in the united states. One of the children who got adopted by a caring and loving gay couple could probably have the mind/brain of a genius that despite his parents beliefs will grow up to help the next generation and the world.... Gays arent bad. They work, eat, live, and love just like we do. Let them be who they want to be. Im not gay, but let them marry. It is going to be legal eventually, just like african americans and women got their right of freedom. Or the right to vote, etc....
Personally I don't know, and I don't see how people can use religion to back up the believe against same-sex marriage, when are government is suppose to not be based on any one religion (so why should one religion be used to make laws?). To me, I have not heard one reasonable argument against same-sex marriage. Five of the top ten nations in the world (the 10 best nations for health, quality of life, ect.) have legalized same-sex marriage even, and a couple of others are on the rise of doing the same, and they're doing amazing...

Because it goes against their religion, even though THEY aren't the ones getting married. -_- (Pretty dumb if you ask me. I can understand if you just dislike it, but to tell other people they can't get married just because you want to cry about it? That's just bad.)

Some people take it strongly in a religious way and some are just homophobic. But its your decision and no one should judge you for having choices and desicions made. So rock on and do what your doing dont change for anyone but yourself. ok? :) Stay cool. Oh and I bet you werent expecting that answer from a christian were you? ;) Yep Im a christian.
People who believe that gay marriage should not be allowed in the US are not thinking about whether it is constitutional or not. They are only thinking about their own religions, The US Constitution is not about religion, It is supposed to be a free country with diverse beliefs that can be accepted. If the Constitution was supposed to be based on religions like Christianity we would not be allowed to cut our hair or get tattoos , I dont see anyone getting all pruny over those.
They gather their morality from an ancient barbarian demagogue illustrated as something to worship in a supposed holy book. This book also advocates slavery and killing children so don't feel like you are alone in this persecution. I'm doing all I can to mount gods head on my wall- beats slaying dragons.
Most religions consider homosexuality a sin. It would weaken the definition and respect for the institution of marriage. It would further weaken the traditional family values essential to our society. It could provide a slippery slope in the legality of marriage (e.g. having multiple wives or marrying an animal could be next). It confuses children about gender roles and expectations of society, and only a man & woman can pro-create. The gay lifestyle is not something to be encouraged, as a lot of research shows it leads to a much lower life expectancy, psychological disorders, and other problems.
The bible man im christian but this is getting seriously ridiculous what about as in the bible - no one can judge ? Or the 10 commendments ? Broken them - everyone lies and everyone cheats . I would seriously recomment getting a life and first off look at yourself tjen judge cause ur sure have plenty of time judging others . Low self. Esteem issues ? Yup hun .
Because its not right god intended to be a man and woman not women women not men to men it's a man and a woman.if it wasn't for women and man there would be many people in the world.sorry if u don't like it.but it the truth
Homosexuality is a sin; marriage was instituted by God to be one man and one woman not two men or two women. Why is it so hard for people to accept this fact? Homosexuality is immoral and unacceptable behavior, people need to accept it and get on with their lives.
Many Christians were once too against interracial marriage and used the "good book" to defend their position that blacks and whites shouldn't be able to marry. Marriage is not owned by Christians or any other religious sect, and if people would actually research marriage, how it's different in EVERY country, and in every era.. they would learn that marriage is simply a word. It's not a holy union. It's a contract between two or more people. How that contract is shaped depends on what the society of the current government (or by government force) deems acceptable. Like it or not, gay marriage will come around and in 50 years there will be the few hanging on that believe it's not right with the youngest generation wondering what in the hell we were thinking and why it was not allowed. So to answer your question... They are afraid. They are afraid to question their "good book", afraid of going to hell if they support "sin", afraid to actually open up to anything besides what they've been told, etc etc. There are many many reasons people are against it, but on the whole, I'd venture to say that close to 99.9% simply do b/c their book says so.
The Bible says not to marry someone of the same sex. This is why I initially oppose it. But one thing that I think that you should know is that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) did a study and found out that gay couples have much shorter life spans than people who smoke.

Personally, I believe that it goes against natural law. If 2 guys/2girls were supposed to be together, then some girls and guys would be born with one genital part and the rest would be born with another genital part, thus defeating the purpose for man and woman. Also, not all Christians are weak-minded fanatics blindly following whatever a 2,000 year old book says. I always question the Bible but I always find that it makes so much sense to me. If you want to be gay, then go ahead and I won't hate you for it. I just don't think that it's right, personally speaking.
according a lot of idiots, it goes against the bible, but as the bible was written down over and over again by people throughout time, it has been changed a lot by people and some people have some pretty discriminatory views on life
It says it the Bible that being with someone of the same sex is wrong, and society frowns upon it for a number of reasons. I believe the Bible was written by men and every word in it is not absolutely what happened. I do think, however, there are many good stories, which give us examples how to live a good life. I don't know if I am allowed to give my personal feelings here, but I am going to go out on a limb and tell everyone that I am absolutely IN FAVOR OF GAY MARRIAGE! I know some gay couples who are much happier than a lot of straight couples I've known in my life...which includes me...I am divorced!
People don't want gay marriage? Well, I guess that means I'm not a person. I'm very heterosexual (I'm a man and I adore my beautiful wife), but I have absolutely no problem with homosexuals calling themselves married. Honestly, I used to condemn it when I claimed to be Christian. The whole argument was that homosexuality is a sin (an abomination in the sight of God) and that the union of man and woman is ordained by God. Therefore the union of a same-sex couple threatened the sanctity of marriage. But come, let us reason: If a same-sex couple in my neighborhood claims to be married, how does that affect how I view my wife, and my wonderful bond to her? In all truth, the only one who can threaten the sanctity of MY marriage is me or her. Homosexuals claiming to be married no more makes me less married than a transsexual claiming to be a man makes me less of a man. (sigh) But you know people, don't you? Everyone wants to have God in their own back pocket. Everyone wants to be the "bouncer" at the "Pearly Gates".
I really couldn't care less if gays got married. But the fact that the government is forcing churches to allow their marriages in them bothers me. Yes, they can marry in court but just keep it off church, since the Bible and Christianity are against it.
