I live in Virginia but park my RV in Florida. Should I (can I) register the RV in Florida?

I do not own real estate in Florida. I pay high property taxes on the RV in Virginia although it is never in Virginia.

to register your RV in Florida you would need be a Florida resident or have a po.box.

Wait .. explain that to me .. You pay property (land) tax on an RV (the kind that you drive) just because you own one? .. not property? I am confused.

That's the way it works in the good old Commonwealth of Virginia. I pay as much for the RV in personal property tax as I do for my house in real estate tax. If you plan to retire, DO NOT move to Virginia.

OMGG! I have never heard of such a thing .. paying taxes on your posessions that are not even being utilized in the state .. merely because you own them? THAT's insane!

I understand how taxes work .. Taxes cover all the luxuries we all have the priviledge to enjoy .. roads, utility services, bridges, emergency services..etc .. that all costs money .. But to be taxed heavily on personal belongings ..other than sales tax .. is extortion in my eye. They force you to pay for something that provides you no direct benefit.

I see why you would want to register it in Florida..I would too! And thanks for the tip about relocating to Virginia .. I don't even think that's a place I'd like to visit.
