I have a 1986 Camaro, and the steering is really really lose. what could it be?

All answers above are wrong-
Steering loose" meaning u can turn the wheel a bit both directions and the front wheels don't respond -"?
If so - there are bushings in the steering rod - those need to be replaced - have some1 turn the wheel a bit while u look at the steering rod
You will see what I mean and where the bushings are

thanks, i figured it was something like that. and yea all the others really need to learn their shit

Yup
Sometimes u can tighten those
Bushings up- by simply tightening
Up the bolts that holds the bushings
Bushings are cheap
Replace them - n go from there
If that does nothing
It's your tie rod ends
Again - a bushing- and cheap
