Is it unethical to use my Pell Grant to pay off credit card debt.
I am a single mom who has just gone back to school. I will be receiving a Pell grant of $5500. They gave me the option to have the money to be applied directly to my tuition and the remainder of the balance I'd owe would be covered by subsidized and unsubsidized loans, or I can have them disperse all of the grant money in three payments to me, then pay off the entire student loan after I finish school. Is it improper to use the funds to pay off my credit cards to make my other living expenses more manageable with the Grant money? My credit card bills weren't from a result of having fun but were a result of me raising kids on my own without the support of their father.
