Don't wait for people to talk to you, talk to them first! Ask different people how they are when you greet them, and ask them something about themselves. INtroduce yourself to a lot of people, and get your name around the school.
You don't need to be popular to be happy. I'm a loser, and I'm the happiest person I've ever been, a few close friends, an amazing boyfriend and I get the best marks in school. I see myself as a loser. Always have, I'm 16 and I abused drugs for 4 years. I was a junkie, I was a meth head, I did everything but I got clean. I've been through a lot but it makes me who I am and I'm happy. So be yourself and wait until you get into the real world.

This may sound off but join a club, hobby, class or sport away from your school that will help you build self confidence and a place where you can make mistakes and not feel too bad about it. This way you can take your self confidence to your school. People are attracted (friends and more then friends) are attracted to self confidence. I highly recommend drama / acting classes or martial arts - both teaches you to believe in yourself.
