How does the nervous system carry messages to the brain from the point of impulse?

There are basically two kinds of nerves: Efferent nerves which facilitate motor function, and Afferent nerves which facilitate sensory function. Chemicals called neurotransmitters carry signals along the nerve pathways to and from the brain.
