Your hair gets wavy again because of humidity. Straighten with a flat iron and then use a hair spray or smoothing cream if you can. The important part is to stay out of moist and humid areas after that. You could have it professionally relaxed but if your hair is only wavy and not curly it could do damage to your hair.
Why do you want to keep it straight? Keep it wavy! If you straighten it, it'll get thin! My sister had thick, wavy hair and then when she got older she started straightening it all the time and now it's like a rats tail! I have wavy hair, and my sister and her friends are jealous of me :)
I have been looking for the answer to that question for 58 years. Basically, you can't. You just have to learn to live with it. The flat irons, products, curling irons, hair spray, etc. can be tools to use that help you achieve a tamer look, but if your's is like mine, you know your hair is going to do it's own thing after a certain amount of time, especially if there is high humidity, rain, snow, sweat, or wind involved.

just like mine...after an hour (i think) from shower, my hair gets very very dry+curly. I've been trying to find solutions but i haven't. Maybe you should just leave your naturally wavy hair and try to live with it like i do. :))
my hair is wavy and really thick. What I do is when i straighten it i put it on a higher setting (not too high) and I go over very slowly over very small sections of hair, I go over them multiple times to fix it because the waves usually dont go out in one go. i dont use cream or hairspray because the spray makes my hair hard which throws it out of whack and the cream just makes it curl. straightening spray sizzles and fries my hair
try blow drying it straight with a brush. or when you straighten your hair, clip up your hair and do it in sections. take your time with it. also you may need to put more conditioner in to keep it down. and if you take a shower at night and let your hair air dry then in the morning straighten it you'll get a better result. hope this helps you :)
i have the same type of hair, so i have to clip my hair into 3 sections(bottom, middle, and top) , straighten it on 400 degree heat, then spray hairspray all over a brush, then brush through my hair with it. i also use garnier fructis flat iron perfector, which makes your hair soft, smooth, shiny, and helps it stray straighter than if you just straighten it. afterwards, you can use john frieda frizz hairspray that keeps your hair straight, shiny, soft, and smooth for three days. but, if you have thick hair and want to keep it that way, leave it alone and keep it wavy. hope this helps!
I had the same problem. I went to the salon and paid $50.00 and they put a treatment on my hair that did the opposite of a perm. Now my hair is straight all the time but I still have to use a straighter to get it to look just right.
