What is a metaphor for pets?

I need a metaphor for pets.

Report as

A good metaphor about pet is "the pet was charming as little prince" or "going to the dogs". A metaphor is like a simile but it's a figure of speech where a word is applied to an object or action where it is applicable.

I don't need something else to call them, I need a metaphor. It is a comparison, but not using "like" or "as".
Report as
so you need. heart of a lion, eyes of the hawk, wits of the fox type of things.

Joe had the heart of a lion is an animal metaphor.

my wife has a kitten face. =)
Report as
No. I need something like: School is a never-ending nightmare. I am comparing the two, yet I do not use "like" or "as".
Report as
right... so all of my comments apply. they are metaphors. good luck!
Report as
No, these are not metaphors.
Report as
And anyway, I don't need something that just involves pets, or a certain kind of pet. I need it to be about pets in general.
Report as
uh.... yes they are:
a simile states that A is like B, a metaphor states that A is B or substitutes B for A.
Report as
jim has hawkeyes. is a metaphore because we compare his eyes to a hawks.
Report as
But these are not what I need.
Report as
what about school is dog-butt then? that better? lol
Report as
I need one for pets, and I need "are" instead of "has".
Report as
that IS substantially more difficult....
what about these?

Dog tired—could sleep the day away

Gone to the dogs—not a good place to go

Bird dog—to move in on someone else’s girl friend or boy friend

Yellowdog—who some democrats would rather vote for than a republican

Bluedog—democrat in name only

Dog fight—a one-on-one battle with no rules

To dog it—not even try

Can’t teach an old dog new tricks—age has its privileges

Dog leg—really crooked

Dog eared—really ragged

As thick as fleas on a coon dog—a lot of something

You’re dog meat—unpleasant threat putting someone low on the food chain

Tail wags the dog—priorities skewed

Dog breath—unpleasant respiration odors

Lucky dog—the fates smile lovingly on you (and you probably don't deserve it)

Dog eat dog world—where the rules of civilization don’t apply

Top dog—who rules in such a world

Junk yard dog—someone really mean

Lap dog—a public figure that is easily persuaded by another

Dirty dog—a step above being a dirty rat
That dog don’t hunt—you’ve given a poor excuse or reason

Sick as a dog—to empty the contents of one’s upper digestive tract

Hair of the dog that bit you--a morning drink after a night of debauchery

I don’t have a dog in that fight—I don’t care one way or the other

Working like a dog— Any dogs I’ve ever seen working—hunting, herding, performing, digging, guarding, sniffing, pulling a sled—were very happy.

According to definition a metaphor must not use the words "like" or "As" The dog was an inferno of rage and malice=metaphor The dog was as hot as an inferno in his rage=simile

I do not need dogs, I need pets.

The noun "dog" could be replaced by the word "pets" or any other you choose.I was merely giving a generic example
