Okay, so, I have no idea who my dad is. Should I be nosing around?

I want to know who my dad is, he left before I was born and he went to jail. Should I be nosing around to find out?

That depends on how much you really want to know the answer.

If you're really interested, ask your family members and try to find out. But don't sneak around. That's never a good idea!

The truth is, you may not know your dad because maybe he's not a great guy. He might not know how to be a dad and may not be very responsive even if you find him. It's normal to daydream about suddenly having a dad that loves you and can tell you about family, but a lot of the time that's not what happens. If you are prepared for that possibility and still willing to take the chance of being hurt that bad then I say go for it. But make sure you take into account all the possible outcomes.

my dad left too I found out at about 12 that who I thought was my dad wasn't, and after I overheard it one day I confronted my mom about it, and she said she knew the day would come that I would figure out so it wasn't like she was freaking out because I asked.

Of course, you deserve to know. Plus, he's half of your genetic makeup, it would be helpful to know his family's health history, which is yours too.
There may be some surprises, like half-siblings, or a famous person in your lineage. Best of all you'll know, no more mystery. Nose around, by all means.
