What did I do?

I hurt this spot on my back when feel very hard and hit the edge of a metal seat. When it first happened, I couldn't breathe right. I had to wait a couple seconds to be able to talk and even then, I got out of breath and it was difficult to keep up a conversation. I hit the spot right below my shoulder blade and just above the back of my ribs. It's lightly bluish-purple already and very sore. I cannot bend over and breath at the same time without a super sharp pain going through my right side of my entire back. I didn't tell my coach because I have a game tomorrow. Does anybody have an idea to what I did and how long it will feel like this because I'm getting more and more worried. Thank you very much to who answer.

Sounds like it MAY be a fracture. If bending over hurts, don't. Get it checked out by a professional. I'm sure your coach will get someone else to play for you and it will make it worse if you put stress on it. I did a first aid certificate course today and yesterday so the information is still fresh in my mind. Bluish-Purple suggests internal bleeding or lack of oxygen circulation. I would suspect it is both. De-oxygenated blood as well as the internal bleeding may have caused the colour and area. Until you see a professional, I can only suggest that you relax and don't put too much stress on your shoulder blade.

Hope this helps!

Oh haha I'm very glad that it was still easy to remember! This is a great answer and it really has helped! I didn't play in the games yesterday or today so I could heal up a bit and I feel much better already. The bruise is still there but not as much pain. You are very smart and so very helpful. Thank you again MikeRobe :)
