What did people do before antibiotics?

For common infections such as strep throat, or a urinary tract infection?

The Ancient Greeks used honey and Garlic mixed together for wounds and just straight chewing cloves of garlic for anything internal ! Actually it works really good for sinus infections as I tried it and three days later was fine ! Saved a Doctor's visit and taking antibiotics !

Oh that's why the earth's population has risen so quickly!

Yes .. our mortality rate has decreased with our improved medical sciences .. which in turn increases our birth and survival rate .. So do the math.

There was a time when people died from the common cold. Children had a very low survival rate, and people did not often live over the age of 30. Most often the cause of death was infection.

Sulfur drugs. A lot died from simple infections. Sulfa drugs were the precursor.

Some used herbs and ointments which didn't always help.

They believed that bloodletting would work but it made things worse. They thought we had 12 pints if blood while we only have 6. most people died before antibiotics. You were considered lucky back then if you caught the common cold and were still alive because most people died then from the common cold.

Some people used home remedies. Some people's bodies fought off the infections. Some people died.
Today we have problems because some people turn too quickly to the antibiotics leading to the development of stronger antibiotics and "superbugs " that are resistant to the current antibiotics.
