I too have heard that Greyhounds are excellent rabbit hunters and they have the speed to catch them when they run. They are sight hounds and often work with other dogs that flush the game, Greyhounds need to see it, they do not hunt much with their nose.
I would imagine other sight hounds would work similarly like the Whippet but they are smaller and might not be able to take on a Jack Rabbit or large hare.
My dad used to use Coon Hounds and Greyhounds to hunt rabbit.
Greyhounds are great dogs too, wonderful temperament, wonderful family dogs.
I agree with Hawaiianlika, Beagles were bred for rabbit hunting and they are also a great breed for a family pet. Just remember, they WILL let you know if any small animals have been within sniffing range.
