I don't believe in god but was asked to be a god parent! how do I substitute that?

my friend asked me to be the god parent to her child but I don't believe in god....I believe in Mother Earth. is there a way to substitute that? I know the original way of god parenting was to reach the child the spiritual ways of life but now days ppl just pick who they're close to. I remember watching a tv show (l word) where one of the girls didn't believe so she became the "earth mother". idk.....advice???

Well be honest with your friend a God parent was A to take over a sub in case of death of the original parent and bring the child up in the same culture i.e. that same type of things the parent believed so just be gentle and honest and say thanks for thinking of me it a great honor but just give to her straight

I'm sure there will be more than one godparent so they can probably do the godliness side of it. & you can support the child by teaching it amongst other things to be a child of the earth. To respect nature & live in harmony with all animals & trees alike. Teach the child how to make a vegie patch. How to plant natives to attract local bird life to your garden, a window box of color. A bird feeder for the wild birds. We all have our own unique gifts to pass on to future generations. A child blooms like a flower from learning many important activities in life. Above all love & protect & u can be sure you are worthy of being this child's godparent.

Being a god parent doesn't require any real devotion to a religion. Treat it as a gesture that you will look after the child as they grow.
