Is it bad to get 6 or less hours of sleep per night?

There is a 17 year old who claims that they only get 6 hours (usually max) of sleep. Is it bad or is it ok if it's kind of a routine thing for them?

We're all different, the amount of sleep required varies as well. Depending on what I'm doing my sleep time varies between 2 to 6 hours, I'd love to sleep better & longer, but my body has its own ideas

It's not very healthy. It can stunt his/her growth, make her more susceptible to disease, infections, and stress, and can limit her concentration and ability to learn.

Yeah, but I do it anyway. Of course, I'm a college student and have lots of studying to do so I kinda have an excuse.

It's not the ideal amount of hours but its hard to get the desired 10-12 hours every night. Especially as a teenager. I'm a teenage girl and only get 5-6 hours or sleep on most nights too. Sure I'm tired, but my lack of sleep doesn't dictate my behavior or performance ability in class.

As long as they have had an hour long period of REM sleep, that is when the body is truly rested

For youngsters yes it's bad, but for older people for a six hours solid sleep is enough.

It's not healthy but a lot of people don't get as much sleep as they should.

Unless you are a senior, then no. You need about 8 hrs. 10 for teens, 12 for kids, and 14 for babies. If I'm not right, sorry. Trying to remember my facts. I know for sure that you need 8hrs.
