What does it mean when there is an oval with line through the center on a tombstone?

My friend and i found an old graveyard and it had 2 tombstones it in. Both of them had 2-3 ovals with a line through the center on the bottom of the tombstone.

I'm not sure. How old was the graveyard, and what else was on the tombstone?

the people were born in the 1700's and died in the early 1800's, and just their names and when they died
